On Sunday afternoon we went for lunch at one of our usual spots: a place where the waiters know Alex by name. We go there quite often mainly because Alex actually eats the pizza they make for him, and their other food is actually quite delicious too.
So Alex is running around, charming everyone, and discussing the “fancy cars” in the parking lot (there happened to be three Ferrari’s and a Maserati parked outside!) when Craig (whilst discussing how charismatic Alex is) says to him: “Alex, are you CHARISMATIC?” To which he replies, without even batting an eyelid: “No, I’m Alex Lawrence!”
(Very clever seeing as his sister’s name is Caris!)
My funny little guy!
Christmas just passed, was the first time Alex GOT the whole Christmas thing, and his excitement was amazing! He loved the build up to “Farmer Christmas’ ” arrival, and was so excited to see all the presents under the tree on Christmas morning. (But that deserves it’s own post, which I will hopefully get around to soon).
Some family gave us a late christmas gift – a hamper of yummy goodies. So we told Alex that Father Christmas had left this gift for us under their tree. After rummaging through the goodies, and establishing what items he could sneak away (like the tiny Lindt teddy-bears), he turned around and said to me: “That farmer Christmas is a cool guy”. Funny boy!
The other day, I went to fetch Caris from her afternoon nap, and Alex came upstairs with me to get her. She smiled at Alex as soon as she saw him, as she always does, and he says to me: “Mommy, Caris looks like a jelly tot!”. So I ask, “why?”, to which he replies: “because she’s round and round and I can eat her all up!”
I love that silly boy!
We were sitting on the beach on Tuesday, soaking up the sun and sea air, when it was time to give Caris her milk. So I started getting her formula ready.
Alex: “What are you doing Mommy?”
Me: “Making milk for Caris, my love”
Me: “‘Cos she’s hungry and thirsty”
Me: “Because she has been sleeping, and it’s hot, and it is time for her milk now” (trying to cover all angles here…)
Me: (only two “why’s” !)
I proceed to give Caris her bottle.
Alex: “Mommy …”
Me: “Yes my boy?”
Alex: “Why is Caris drinking from a bottle and not from your nipple?”
My mother in law just about wet herself laughing!
The other day, Alex was cuddled up on the couch with one of his older brothers reading a story. The weather was gearing up for a storm, the kind you only get on a hot summer’s afternoon in Joey’s, and the wind was howling, whistling through the trees.
We all like to encourage Alex’s imagination, so Stuart says to him: “Can you hear the wind”. Alex answers back in his best whispery voice “Yessss”. So Stuart, now playing along in his best whispery voice, says “What is it saying?”, to which Alex replies very matter-of-factly: “I don’t know, I don’t speak wind!”.
We both nearly fell off our chair laughing.
